About DETLC

Down East Teen Leadership Camp will be held at Cobscook Institute, located at 10 Commissary Point Road in Trescott, Maine.  Camper registration/drop off will be from 3:00-3:30pm on Monday, July 22 and our closing ceremony/pick up will be at 1:00pm on Friday, July 26th.

At DETLC we aim to increase protective factors and decrease risk factors for participants. We accomplish this through guest speakers, youth staff role models, and daily mini-workshops. We balance our workshop time with healthy social activities, like a pizza night and team-building activities, as well as through the opportunity for students to share their thoughts and feelings in their "Family Groups" at camp.

DETLC is open to all students entering 7th, 8th, or 9th grades in the fall of 2024. Priority will be given to students from Washington County and Passamaquoddy Territory, and students from outside these regions will be accepted as space allows. The per-camper fee is $295. Tuition includes five days of programs and activities, as well as meals, snacks, and overnight accommodations.

A deposit of $45, full payment or scholarship request form is needed to confirm a camper's registration. Remaining balance is due July 15th. Full and partial scholarships are available for families based on need. Scholarships of varying amounts are available, so if cost is a barrier, please do not hesitate to reach out to us to discuss options.

Camper Information

Medical Information

Is student on any prescribed medications at the present time for ANY of the previously mentioned conditions or for any other health problems?  If yes, please list each prescribed medication and dosage below. If you would like an adult to administer medication to your child at camp, please let us know.

As a parent or guardian of the above DETLC participant, I designate all matters of discipline and emergency decisions to the camp staff and hereby release camp staff, Healthy Acadia, its partner sites, employees, other volunteers and any program sponsors from any and all damages, injury, causes of action, claims and liability that might arise from my participation in DETLC activities. I understand that first aid will be available at DETLC, that campers will be closely supervised, and that if a serious injury or illness develops, medical and/or hospital care will be given. However, the camp staff is not responsible in case of accidental injury or illness. I further understand that in case of serious injury or illness we will be notified, but if it is impossible to contact us, we give permission for emergency treatment or surgery as recommended by attending physicians.

Media Release

I consent to and allow any use and reproduction by Healthy Acadia and partner organizations of any and all photographs or videotapes taken of my child, or words spoken by them during my participation in activities through Healthy Acadia programs.  I understand that Healthy Acadia or partners will own the photographs, videotape, and quoted words and the right to use or reproduce such photographs, videotape, and quoted words in any media, as well as the right to edit the photographs or videotapes or prepare derivative works of these materials for the purposes of promotion, advertising, and public relations. I hereby consent to Healthy Acadia’s use of my child's name, likeness, voice or words, and I agree that such use will not result in any liability for payment to any person or organization, including myself.

Youth Survey Permission

DETLC is funded in part through Healthy Acadia's Partnerships for Success (PFS) initiative, a program funded by the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) to prevent the onset and reduce the progression of youth substance use and its related problems. Healthy Acadia is the lead organization implementing the PFS program in Washington and Hancock Counties in Maine, and they are using PFS funding to fund initiatives such as the Down East Teen Leadership Camp. Healthy Acadia has contracted Public Consulting Group (PCG) to evaluate the PFS project. The purpose of this survey, which will be administered during and/or after camp, is to learn about your child’s health, well-being, and experiences with the Down East Teen Leadership Camp. Learning about your child’s experiences can help us create better health and well-being programs for young people like your child. There are little to no known risks of participating in this survey. If at any time your child would like to take a break or discontinue answering questions, they are welcome to do so. This survey is anonymous, and your child’s name will not be used in any reports or publications associated with this survey. Your child’s answers will be kept confidential and will not be shared in an identifying way with SAMHSA, Healthy Acadia, or anyone else. Participation in the survey is voluntary and your child’s responses will not impact any services or interventions they participate in. There are no right or wrong answers - only different viewpoints. Your child can skip any questions that they would prefer not to answer. A similar online follow-up survey also will be sent to your child a few months after camp. By signing below, you agree that the information above has been explained and your questions have been addressed to your satisfaction. You are voluntarily signing this consent form for your child to participate in the Down East Leadership Camp Surveys for the PFS evaluation project.
